Mangan = “Let’s Eat!”

A Kapampangan or Ilokano word for inviting a person to eat.

***Ilokano, Kapampangan are Philippine dialects.

Mangan  is one of the popular Filipino Restaurants in the Philippines.  Since 2001, It has been serving our favorite Filipino dishes.

You won’t have dilemma finding this restaurant because they have branches in major malls around Metro Manila. Here are the lists:

We visited Mangan just recently to celebrate Mother’s Day.  Of course a family event entails packed customers and long reservation line. Although reservation was easy, our pre-ordering experience was chaotic. The waitress put a different order under my name. I have to correct her beforehand but she wasn’t able to address it right away causing delay in our dining. In addition to this, we were also billed foods which we didn’t ordered.

Despite of this, the other waiter and Manager were very polite and apologetic. They provided us the service we deserved. Thanks.

We chose their  BEST SELLERS and  those which we seldom ate  at home.

1 KARE KARE. Looking at the menu, it’s obvious that it is one of the Best Sellers.  Kare-Kare originated from Pampanga and it is a stew with rich peanut sauce vegetables and oxtail or tripe. The dish is complemented with  Bagoong (Fish Sauce).  One of the best Kare Kare I’ve tasted.

2  SISIG NI MELY.  Pampanga is very famous for Sisig  and I love how they served the sisig in an enclosed Banana Leave. “Sisig” is actually a method of preparing meat in sour liquid such as vinegar,  seasoned with spices and usually served in sizzling Plates. Pork, Chicken, and Tuna Sisig are some of the popular types of sisig.

Sisig ni Mely “Pork Sisig” is delish although I’m used to those served with Egg on top or Soy Sauce on the side to add flavor. We didn’t requested it though but overall it’s a must try!

3 BULALO Typical part of Filipino meal is having “Sabaw” or Soup. Bulalo is a light soup with cooked Beef or Bone Marrow.

Mangan’s Bulalo serving is enough for two persons. The meat is very tender and as for my father who ate all the bone marrow, it was really good.

The only downside we had is that the corns aren’t well cooked.

4.  BIBINGKA WITH KESONG PUTI.   We ordered one because Bibingka is my mama’s favorite “kakanin” or Rice Cake. Mangan’s version has a twist of Kesong Puti instead of the usual Cheddar Cheese. Mother loved it! 🙂

I’ve been to different other Filipino Restaurants and Mangan is one of the affordable and they don’t have service charge too! 🙂

  • Bulalong Baka with Mais – ₱380.00
  • Kare-Kare Buntot ng Baka- ₱360.00
  • Sisig ni Mely ₱260.00

The coziness of the restaurant makes you really feel at home while you eat familiar cooked meals. It’s an ideal restaurant for celebrations with families and friends

  1. looks like Indonesian food, especially Bulalo and Sisig Ni Mely. If You visit Indonesia,You’d better taste “pepes” and “Soup Konro”, those kind of foods similar to Philippine’s cuisine.
